"To bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair." Isaiah 61:3

My New Little Venture.....

Hi All! So sorry I haven't been blogging much lately. Suffice it to say that real life is getting in the way--that's a good thing, huh?

I am so excited about a new project that I am embarking on....co-teaching an honors course called Disability & Society at our state university with my friend JoLynn (who is an awesome professor!). I am told that this is a new trend in the special education field to have parents as co-teachers, so I am so excited to be able to be a part of this next fall.

Right now, I have been given the opportunity to get ready for the course by reviewing the materials, researching, and preparing.

Take a peek at the course marketing materials and see if you recognize someone special to me?

This is too fun....and I get paid which is a bonus too! :)

More Please......

'Please, sir, I want some more.' says Oliver. So Kevin and I just giggle and think of Charles Dicken's Oliver when EVERY DAY Bella proudly holds up her bowl to show us she finished her Cream of Wheat...

Well, sweet Bella, you will never be in want for more. Your mama and papa will always meet your physical and emotional needs. However, one big bowl of Cream of Wheat is plenty for one little five-year-old like yourself! Let's just say learning limits is a good thing too! :)

Mother's Day Blessings....

This is what makes Mother's day so dear to me....

Last year, on Mother's Day Kevin took a picture of me and our THREE children holding a picture of Bella (To see last year's post: http://beautifulgiftfromgod.blogspot.com/2009/05/happy-mothers-day.html

This year, well....I am just so thankful for all FOUR blessings that surround me with love each day.

Happy Mother's Day especially to my Mother, my mother-in-law Lucille, and all of you, my dear friends, who have the honor of being called a Mom! God bless you in this highest of callings!

Love, Paula

Bad Mommy Award...

Although it's Mother's Day weekend, I may just get the bad mommy award. :( You see over the last week, Bella has been having so many potty accidents. I really thought it was a control issue or even a little testing the waters (no pun intended). Her preschool teacher even called the other day and asked if she was having accidents at home too. Yes, she was...All to say, I was getting a little annoyed with Bella at not going potty in the toilet like a big girl.

Well, I finally called her doctor who wanted to rule out an infection. So, after taking a sample to the lab on Thursday (which was no easy feat in itself), Dr. C. called today to say that she does have an urinary tract infection and needed a round of antibiotics.

Now I feel bad....she was sick all along. Sorry little Bella...This mom stuff still is hard after so many years!

Mothers With Their Special Blessings.....

As I have mentioned before, one of the benefits of being in Ukraine for our adoption was meeting some very pretty amazing people adopting through Reece's Rainbow! One of these wonderful women was Gillian Marchenko who adopted a beautiful little girl with Down syndrome. She made this video to share featuring moms with their children who have that "little something extra." Thanks, Gillian, you did a great job! Enjoy....

A Date Night with the Olders.....

Kevin and I try to be careful to give our "olders" (Elizabeth & Sam) the time they need with us so they won't feel that the "youngers" (Grace & Bella) are getting all attention. We hope that each of our children know that they are a "part" of this family and not the "center" of it. Ultimately, we strive to impart to them that God is the center of our lives and not the other way around. :)

So, Kevin and I took the "olders" out to dinner last night to visit while the "youngers" had time with one of their favorite sitters Anne. While we were waiting for our dinner to arrive, we played a game of trivia which was printed on the restaurant advertisement placard. Too fun!

Then, we went to a video store to try and pick out a movie. Let's just say that it is beyond difficult to find a selection we could all agree on. Then, I remembered that some friends had suggested a movie about an inner city chess team. Kevin texted his buddy and found that the movie was called "Knights of South Bronx".

After renting the movie & picking out some treats, we went Kevin's office to watch the DVD. It was a feel-good movie that we all really loved.

All in all, it was a good night with our olders!

And, to brag a bit on the olders....I wanted to share that both Elizabeth and Sam garnered some honors these past weeks:

Elizabeth "starred" in all three music performances at the State competition--a clarinet solo, a woodwinds trio, and a girls vocal ensemble.

Sam placed second in the year-end chess tournament where he has been attending chess club all year. Here he is with his coaches and the first place person:

Woo Hoo, way to go "olders"! So proud of you both....

Love, the Oldest
